Tate® Publishes “Access Floor Air Plenum Sealing Guides” for Architects, General Contractors, and Commissioning Agents

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JESSUP, MD, January 17, 2008

New Guides Include Downloadable Access Floor Plenum Sealing Specification Language

As the number of buildings utilizing underfloor air distribution (UFAD) to construct high-performance indoor environments that are more sustainable and energy-efficient continues to grow, Tate Access Floors launches a series of guides extracted from its extensive experience working on UFAD projects to help ensure the successful design and construction of these systems. Just released are the first three in the series, Architect’s Guide for Detailing & Specifying Access Floor Air Plenums, General Contractor’s Guide for Constructing & Sealing Access Floor Air Plenums, and Commissioning Agent’s Guide for Inspecting & Testing Access Floor Air Plenums.

“Incorporating an underfloor air distribution strategy in the design of new construction and renovation projects can contribute significantly to the LEED points earned on a project and greatly enhance the overall owner/occupant experience… but only if it is designed and constructed correctly,” said Bill Reynolds, Director of Product Development, LEED AP, Tate Access Floors. “These guides provide the design and construction teams with the necessary information to properly specify, detail, inspect and test underfloor air plenums.”

Each guide in the series makes recommendations for the design & construction of UFAD systems with plenum integrity. It also provides step-by-step suggestions to help ensure the project’s success. Invaluable advice is provided for every phase of construction. In the design phase, for instance, Tate recommends placing specification and performance requirements in all divisions of the CSI specifications, thereby elevating awareness among the various trades. Detailed recommendations are also made for pre-bid and pre-construction meetings, the assembly of a pre-construction mock-up, quality inspections and air leakage testing procedures and expected results.
