Tate® Expands In-Floor Cooling Solutions with New Product Offerings

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 25, 2011

Tate®, a market leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of raised access flooring solutions, has expanded its line of in-floor cooling solutions for data centers to include the new DirectAire™ X2 airflow panel and multiple control options for both the SmartAire® variable-air-volume (VAV) damper and the PowerAire® fan-assist module.

DirectAire X2 splits airflow evenly and angles it in two directions, allowing for directional airflow to racks on either side of the cold aisle in a legacy datacenter that has only one accessible airflow panel. Like the DirectAire panel, DirectAire X2 features a 68 percent open area capable of delivering 2,600 CFFM at .1" H2O static pressure. More importantly, an angle of deflection at the top of each vertical vane directs the airflow toward server racks to efficiently cool more than 12.5 kW per rack (more than 25 kW for both racks) and achieve an industry-leading 93 percent total capture rate. In addition, the panel's all-steel construction makes it the strongest airflow panel on the market, with a 2,000-pound rolling load, 2,500-pound design load and a minimum safety factor of 2.0. This superior load performance makes it the ideal panel for retrofits and new construction, easily integrating into an existing raised floor system.

New control options for SmartAire dampers and PowerAire fan-assist modules help to effectively manage diverse and variable loads and eliminate hot spots. SmartAire dampers are electronically controlled, precisely adjusting the amount of air passing through an individual panel to meet the current cooling needs. The PowerAire fan-assist module manages the cooling requirements for dense server racks and blades by providing a blast of cooling through the DirectAire airflow panel. The new SmartAire C or PowerAire C client-sensor option provides the highest level of control flexibility and is ideal for clients with existing sensor networks, tapping into data already being collected and using it to drive these devices.

The SmartAire S or PowerAire S single-sensor option offers a single temperature probe to monitor inlet air temperature. Typically, the probe is mounted near the top of the rack face to monitor the recirculation path over the top of the rack. For racks that are not fully loaded, equipment should be loaded from bottom to top and the probe placed as high as the equipment in the rack.

The SmartAire M or PowerAire M multiple-sensor option offers three temperature probes for full rack height monitoring of inlet air temperature. Full height monitoring ensures that air recirculation paths are monitored and is best used with stand alone racks or on racks at the end of aisles. The SmartAire M and PowerAire M can be equipped with interface cards that allow the devices to interface with the existing building management system (BMS), retrieving current inlet temperatures and damper position or fan speeds and adjusting individual unit temperature set points.

"Each of these new products introduces important efficiencies to the data center," said Scott Alwine, marketing manager at Tate. "At the same time, they underscore Tate’s commitment to delivering the latest in data center cooling technology to the market, helping operators better understand and manage the diverse and variable loads that characterize today’s data centers."
